An incus homograft was placed in one ear of each of three cats. Two homografts remained for 22 months and one homograft for 36 months. The temporal bones were removed en bloc after perfusion with formaldehyde solution and processed for histological study. The incus homografts essentially were no different histologically from the six-month incus homograft of the 1966 study. The success of the 36-month incus homograft in maintaining its size and shape and in showing no rejection by the host demonstrates that this ossicle is a valid prosthetic device. The incus homograft has the qualities of a good prosthesis, being durable, nonallergenic, readily accessible, and easily stored.
