Key result
Combined therapy with enalapril and moxonidine significantly reduced systolic blood pressure by 28.5% and diastolic blood pressure by 11.2% in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
Why the study?
Treatment of arterial hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is complex, prompting evaluation of combined antihypertensive therapy.
Does the addition of moxonidine to enalapril improve blood pressure, sympathetic nervous system activity, and metabolic parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes and arterial hypertension?
Observational (n=35)
No
Does the addition of moxonidine to enalapril improve blood pressure, sympathetic nervous system activity, and metabolic parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes and arterial hypertension?
The addition of moxonidine to enalapril in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension significantly reduces blood pressure and improves markers of sympathetic overactivity and oxidative stress.
Supports moxonidine add-on for BP control in T2DM hypertension; hypothesis-generating and requires RCTs before practice change.
Treatment of arterial hypertension in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients is complex and at the same time, according to our data, possible and/or controlled process. For example, the use of combined antihypertensive therapy of enalapril with moxonidine is effective in the treatment of arterial hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes, which has a positive effect on the dynamics of catecholamine excretion and 3,4-dioxyphenylalanine, monoamine oxidase activity, significantly reduces the level of Malone dialdehyde in serum.

Ergasheva et al. (2020) conducted an observational in Type 2 diabetes with arterial hypertension (n=35). Enalapril and Moxonidine vs. Baseline was evaluated on Systolic blood pressure (28.5% decrease, p=<0.001). Combined therapy with enalapril and moxonidine significantly reduced systolic blood pressure by 28.5% and diastolic blood pressure by 11.2% in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
