Light Microscopy, X‐ray microradiography, and ultraviolet microscopy have been used to examine pigment dispersion in low‐density polyethylene pigment masterbatches and polyolefin/low‐density polyethylene additive masterbatch extrudates. The results obtained show that the dispersion of pigment additives in the low‐density polyethylene masterbatches studied were very poor. Also, the degree of dispersion of low‐density polyethylene pigment and ultraviolet masterbatches depend on the melt‐flow‐index of high‐density polyethylene. Blend is poor because of the two‐phase nature of the mix.
