For those who are not familiar with the Camberwell Assessment of Need, this A4 ring-bound volume is an acceptable and comprehensive introduction. However, it is not designed to engage the interest of the casual user. A brief ‘flick’ through reveals many rating boxes and confusing abbreviations. For example, CAN-SAS (short appraisal scale), CAN-C (clinical), CAN-R (research). In themselves, these are simple enough; however in the context of the book, these areas may have been made more distinct if a colour-coded system had been employed.
