We study the array of edge dislocations arising in wedge-shaped smectic samples. This allows the measurement of the smectic penetration length λ, together with more microscopic quantities. Our results on the swollen lamellar phase of a quaternary mixture close to a microemulsion support larger λ values than those recently obtained by high-resolution X-ray scattering on this system.
