An anaerobic brewers' yeast was oxygenated to improve its physiological condition. During this treatment, glycogen, sterol, and trehalose contents were measured at regular intervals. Besides the dissimilation of glycogen and the synthesis of sterols, an unexpected accumulation of trehalose was observed. Moreover, the trehalose and sterol concentrations were correlated. These results are discussed with respect to their biochemical relevance.
