Professor Marshall Ward handed to me for investigation three species of Gymnoascus, which had been received by him from Mr. Massee, who had collected them on the substrata referred to below. The species were (1) G. Reessii (Baranetzky), growing on dung, of what kind could not be determined; (2) G. setosus (Eidam), on an old bee's nest; and (3) G. candidus (Eidam), Arachniotus Candidas (Schroeter), on dead grass. Subsequent examination showed that all three species were growing together on the old nest.
