A synthesis of enantiopure methyl D‐erythro‐2,3‐dihydroxybutanoate has been realized using two simple and consecutive reactions on D‐erythronolactone as the starting material. The two reactions are lactone ring opening with hydrobromic acid in methanol and subsequent reductive debromination.
