You may think you understand the concept of grit, but Stoltz believes that you should upgrade your thinking to understand “GRIT,” which “comprises four dimensions. Each stands strong, both statistically and pragmatically, but together they forge a formidable advantage.” This acronym represents growth, resilience, instinct, and tenacity. For the last quality, he points to the awe-inspiring human achievements of Mohandas Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Mother Teresa. Stoltz points out that these four qualities must be matched with “robustness.” He writes that “the more difficult, frustrating, protracted and complex things become, and as the number of tasks required of any of us continues to mount, GRIT is what gets you through.”
