The splitting up of nuclear resonance lines due to J -coupling has been dealt with in detail for both the cases J~8 and J<8. It is shown that for J ~ 8, appreciable departures occur from Gutowsky’s rule in both the intensities and frequencies of the components, particularly the former. The exact line-patterns in several important cases are given.
