Trimethylamine or dimethylamine can hardly be the precursor of formaldehyde, biologically appearing in the tissues of some fishes related to gadoid group. As a most probable route of biological formation of formaldehyde and dimethylamine in fish, oxidation-reduction enzyme system was proposed by presenting an example of methylene blue which evidently enhanced the reaction.
