Abstract 1,8‐Dioxapyrene, a novel unsubstituted dioxa‐analog of pyrene was synthesized from 4‐methoxy‐1‐naphthol in a ten‐step reaction involving two peri‐heterocyclizations. 1H and 13C nmr indicated a disruption of extended delocalization of π electrons, like that observed with the 1,6‐isomer.
