Convulsions occurring in a case in which a general anesthetic has been administered and while the patient is yet in a state of anesthesia is a situation that has occurred with a certain amount of frequency in recent years in this country. The condition was first reported in England in 1927, and most of the literature concerning it has appeared in British medical journals. However, attempts have been made to bring this problem to the attention of the medical profession of the United States. The problem is one that deserves more attention than it has received. The recent contribution of Tovell and Rosenow 1 would seem to point out possibilities that have not previously been suggested, and no doubt there may be other approaches that have not yet been made.
