To the Editor.— We read with interest the article by Bancalari et al1 regarding the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity in neonates managed with and without transcutaneous Po2 monitoring. It occurred to us that Bancalari et al may be in a position to use their data to test an association that we observed in Toledo. In our work, Pao2 was analyzed by assuming linear trending between individual Pao2 values determined from blood samples taken from umbilical artery catheters.
