The prediction, from dynamical considerations, that floating fibres may take up velocities intermediate between those of the back and front rollers is confirmed by high-speed photographic studies. The failure of Ichino and Kurosaki8 to observe such velocities is explained in terms of the experimental conditions selected by those workers.
