It is shown that needle crystals of Cr possessing a fcc structure are grown from Cr(CO)6 through a cathodic growth process. Electron diffraction studies revealed that the needles consisted of unoriented micro single crystals with a fcc lattice whose cell edge was ∼4.14 Å, and their composition was determined to be elementary Cr by Auger spectroscopy. It is hypothesized that the fcc structure of the Cr needles was attributable to their mode of growth in an extremely strong electric field.
