The epoxy mixtures of resin, hardener, diluent or other additives have supreme qualities of hardness, adhesion, insulation and chemical resistance. These resins are used in very varied industries. Acute and chronic dermatitis is common among workers and may affect the hands and face, as well as the genitalia. Diagnosis requires appropriate patch testing with 1–2 per cent of resin, hardener or other ingredients. Allergy to the resin is the main cause in about 80 per cent of patients. Sources of exposure to an epoxy group may be occult. In 40 resin-positive patients no source was found; more than half of them were women.
