The antibacterial and antifungal activities of several extracts and fractions from four endemic Canary plants, Ceropegia fusca Bolle (Asclepiadaceae), Hypericum reflexum L. f. (Hypericaceae or Guttiferae), Maytenus canariensis (loes) Künkel & Sunding (Celastraceae) and Plocama pendula Ait. (Rubiaceae), were determined. The antimicrobial study was carried out by the dilution and diffusion methods and the results showed good antibacterial activity but no antifungal activity. The MeOH extract from Hypericum reflexum was active against gram-positive bacteria Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and against the gram-negative bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae.
