The rate of transfer R has been measured as a function of temperature along surfaces of glass, platinum and nickel. While the ( R, T ) curves have all approximately the same shape, the absolute values of R on metals were found to be much higher than on glass. The effects of polishing and degassing of the transfer surfaces have been studied. Possible explanations for the observed effects are discussed.
