Quadrupolar ( E2) transitions in x-ray magnetic circular dichroism at the L{}III$ edge of Yb in YbF${e}₂$ are evidenced through temperature and angular dependences. The choice of Yb is particularly relevant since $E$2 transitions come as a single peak. The width, position, and intensity of the $E$2 contribution are determined. The $E$2 peak appears in the middle of the dipolar signal. These measurements allow for the determination of dipole and octupole moments of the 4 $f$ shell, whose angular and temperature dependences were found to be in agreement with calculation.
