A partial molar volume technique was used to estimate the coordination number of oxygen ions around a boron ion in PbO·2B 2 O 3 and BaO·2B 2 O 3 melts. The boron coordination number appeared to be lower in the melt than in the crystal of PbO·2B 2 O 3 , whereas it was nearly the same in the melt and crystal of BaO·2B 2 O 3 .
