Solid solubility maps are constructed for Ni alloys and Zr alloys using the ratio of atomic radii rA/rB and the heat of mixing LHM of the liquid alloy as coordinates. Highly soluble elements appear wcll separated from insoluble elements in this map. The map is also able to discriminate between easy glass forming and non glass forming alloys. It is argued that the map contains the factors usually considered to be responsible for the glass forming ability of alloys. High solid solubility and glass forming ability exclude each other.
