Mucormycotic Endocarditis of the Pulmonary Valve

Endocarditis of the pulmonary valve due toMucoroccurred in a 76-year-old man with leukopenia secondary to myelofibrosis and myeloid metaplasia. Postmortem examination revealed a large mycotic vegetation with destruction of the pulmonary valve leaflets, vegetations in the wall of the main pulmonary artery, and mycotic pulmonary embolization with cavitary abscess formation. The clinical course was complicated by disseminated intravascular coagulation. This is the first report, to our knowledge, of infection of the right pulmonary valve and of disseminated intravascular coagulation due toMucor.
