The spin—lattice relaxation time, T1, of 7Li in LiTaO3 powder has been measured by pulsed NMR methods from room temperature to 1130 K. At lower temperatures T1 was constant, (= 0.29 s at ω0 = 56.5 × 106 rad/s) and the dominating relaxation mechanism was the coupling to paramagnetic impurities. Between about 715 and 975 K, T1 decreased nearly linearly with increasing temperature. A broad and flat minimum in T1 was observed above ≈︁ 975 K. Possible explanations for this temperature dependence are discussed.
