We describe the effect of a new, long-acting somatostatin analog, SMS 201-995 (Sandoz Inc., East Hanover, New Jersey), on diarrhea refractory to all forms of therapy in an insulin-dependent diabetic patient with autonomic neuropathy (5) and a 10-year history of intermittent loose bowel movements.A 39-year-old woman with poorly controlled diabetes for 17 years was admitted with profuse, painless, watery diarrhea that had lasted 15 months and was unresponsive to treatment....References1.
