Of the various meteorological problems involving turbulent‐mass interchange one of great concern to hydrology and agriculture is the transport of moisture between an evaporating surface and the atmosphere. For several years we have been working on this problem in the Soil Conservation Service, and from time to time various members of the staff have reported on the progress of our work [see 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 of “References” at end of paper]. During the last year we have concentrated on the problem of measuring wind‐velocity.
