Summary A description is given of the construction and operation of a pneumatic grab taking samples of mud 0.25 m2 in area, which can be removed without disturbance. These are of value in a variety of studies, and examples are given of their use for maintaining enclosed benthic populations and for measuring the emergence of adult Chironomidae.
