The solvent induced intramolecular electron transfer rates of the 1,3-dinitrobenzene radical anion in acetonitrile and DMF were determined at various temperatures under negligible ion-ion interaction. For this purpose, a cryptand was used to capture the sodium counter cation, which was produced in the course of the chemical reduction of 1,3-dinitrobenzene. The obtained rates were ca. one order higher than those previously reported using an electrochemical reduction method with supporting electrolyte.
