Four, five, and nine generations, depending on the synthetic, of four autotetraploid maize (Zea mays L.) synthetics created by the “elongate” method were compared for 2 years at Urbana, Ill. In all four synthetics, percent seed set, yield, plant height, and ear height increased with advancing generations.
