The Mathieu function-series solution for the scattering of a plane wave by a penetrable elliptic cylinder is used to obtain explicit low-frequency (long-wavelength) approximations in powers of the frequency. The far-field scattering amplitude is given to the sixth power of the frequency, and the external and internal fields are given to the third power. We consider arbitrary angles of incidence and observation, and arbitrary eccentricity.
