Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) reinforced with four types of carbon black (superabrasion furnace [SAF], intermediate superabrasion furnace [ISAF], high-abrasion furnace [HAF], and semireinforcing furnace [SFR] was prepared. Transport behavior of the carbon-black-filled samples was examined in an atmosphere of aromatic hydrocarbons. SBR loaded with SAF exhibited the lowest solvent sorption owing to its higher reinforcement and cross-linking density. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of polymer-filler interaction on the solvent transport. The strongly bonded rubber-filler interface restricts the solvent uptake.
