ESTROGENS quantitatively stimulate the immature ovarian follicles of hypophysectomized immature rats resulting in the production of medium-sized solid follicles (1); while testosterone propionate given with estradiol benzoate to similar animals causes degenerative changes in the ovarian follicle and its egg (2). Development of a fluid-distended thin-walled uterus by estrogens and of a heavy muscular uterus following androgen administration is well known. Recent studies describing the effect of various combinations of steroids on uterine weight in hypophysectomized immature rats have revealed interesting anomalies in the actions of certain of these compounds (3).
