The effect is examined of axial texture on the acoustic propagation in polycrystalline aggregates of cubic crystals. In particular, polycrystalline Si, Cu, and Al are studied in detail. The Voigt averaging procedure is applied throughout in order to obtain second- and third- order elastic constants of the polycrystal from the elastic constants of the constituent crystals. Several crystalline orientations are considered relative to the sample symmetry axis. Numerical values of the acoustoelastic constants are obtained and a comparison is presented with available experimental data.
