A new method is described for the determination of compatibility of polymers and low molecular substances with crystalline polymers. The method exploits the change of primary crystallization rate of the pure polymer determined by the substances added. The compatible substances cause a decrease in crystallization rate, the incompatible ones cause an increase or no change at all. The method confirms its validity for crystalline polymers if applied to mixtures with isotactic polypropylene, with linear polyethylene and with polyethylene terephthalate.
