Unexpectedly stable, 3, a covalent acyloxy compound of xenon(II), only decomposes at 85 °C and can be stored almost indefinitely as a solid at room temperature and in CH2Cl2 at −45 °C. Compound 3 is formed from the arylxenon salt 1 and the cesium salt 2 in water (!); in the crystal it is characterized by a linear arrangement of O, Xe, and C, as well as by a “dimerization” through Xe2O2 rings.
