The main message of this review is that nucleophilic substitution of hydrogen in nitroarenes and other electron-deficient arenes is primary general process of wide scope and great value in organic synthesis, whereas conventional nucleophilic substitution of halogens, S N Ar reaction, is just a secondary process.Nucleophilic substitution of hydrogen in electron-deficient arenes is a powerful tool in organic synthesis, effectively applicable to the synthesis of heteroaromatic compounds.
