Summary Using a monoclonal antibody against a synthetic decapeptide corresponding to the N-terminal of the A-chain of bombyxin (Misoguchi et al., 1987) we show that a significant number of neurosecretory cells of the pars in- tercerebralis of Locusta migratoria contain molecules structurally related to this prothoracicotropic neuropeptide isolated from Bombyx. The immunoreactivity, which is restricted to the neurosecretory granules, can be followed through the axon tracts to the nerve endings in the neurohaemal part of the corpora cardiaca. The strongest reactions are obtained with brain-corpora cardiaca complexes from larvae in the second half of their fourth and fifth instars and from adult females initiating ovarian maturation.
