The planktonkreisel is a shipboard aquarium modified after the ‘Meteor Planktonküvette’ designed by Greve in 1975. This new design incorporates recirculating, filtered, refrigerated seawater and dark-field illumination. A wide variety of delicate pelagic and midwater macroplank-ton has been maintained both at sea and ashore in aquaria of this design.
