A new theoretical model for inelastic electron-atom scattering, which includes contributions from all orders of perturbation theory, is proposed. A novel feature of the model is that a closured second Born amplitude appears naturally in the formulation and all higher order terms incorporated in the theory have both real and imaginary parts. A preliminary application of the model to the e-H(2s) excitation at 54.4 eV gives encouraging agreement with the differential cross sections measured by Williams (1981).
