Summary The indigenous cypress pine stands of the Top End of the Northern Territory represent a potentially valuable resource. An understanding of the growth pattern for this species is essential if the viability of management in this region is to be rationally determined. In this paper, age, height and breast-height diameter observations on individual trees have been used to derive a scheme of site classification and establish basic mensurational relationships. The analyses provide both information for a preliminary assessment of growth potential in this region and a basis for more detailed growth studies.
