By using the Muller-Hartmann, Ramakrishnan and Toulouse formalism (1971) the inelastic plus sticking probability of an atom impinging on a metal surface is shown to be one, either for electron/hole pair or phonon excitations of the substrate, for an incoming particle of very low energy.
