Measurements of the absolute thermopower S of liquid germanium and tin are reported. It is found that S = −0.5 μV/K for Ge at the melting temperature and S = −1.5 μV/K for Sn at 900 °C. Calculations of the resistivity and the thermoelectric power performed in the framework of Ziman's nearly‐free electron theory, using the pseudopotential approach and the t‐matrix formulation, lead to reasonable agreement with experiment.
