The angular distributions of gamma radiation from Coulomb excitation with respect to the incident proton beam on thick targets have been measured in the even-even nuclei Ru¹⁰⁴, Pd¹⁰⁸, Pd¹¹⁰, Cd¹¹⁰, Cd¹¹², Cd¹¹⁴, Cd¹¹⁶, Os190,192, and Pt¹⁹⁴. The particle parameters a_ν for a thick target deduced from the measurements on Ru¹⁰⁴, Pd¹¹⁰, Cd¹¹⁴, and Pt¹⁹⁴ agree to within the accuracy of the experiments (±{}2 to 5% for a₂) with the numerical results from the quantum-mechanical treatment of the Coulomb excitation process.
