The simplest model of entangling polymers, a semidilute solution of hard infinitely thin rods that perform only translational Brownian motion, is studied. Reptationlike scaling theory for the transversal diffusion constant is presented. It is shown that the scaling predictions can also be derived from a microscopic dynamic theory in which the interaction of the pair of rods with the surrounding medium is described in a mean-field-like approximation.
