This paper presents a simple quantitative method using capillary electrophoresis (CE) with liquid cooling to analyze commonly seized illicit substances. Fourteen common basic drugs were screened using a 200mM sodium phosphate run buffer. Linearity and reproducibility are shown for cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), and phencyclidine (PCP). Known adulterants and impurities did not interfere with these drug compounds. Comparisons of CE quantitations with results from other laboratory techniques demonstrate the reliable adaptation of CE to the forensic laboratory.
