Methods: Seventy-one patients with fibromyalgia according to Yunus 1981 criteria were compared with 71 controls matched with age, sex, and total pain score (VAS) in a one-year period. The study group had pain school as the only therapy intervention. The pain school consisted of education, group therapy, and psychomotoric physiotherapy. Results: The pupil's overall assessment showed a significant improvement compaired with the controls [P = 0.01]. Some pain consequences, psychosocial factors and quality of life also improved significantly. Conclusions: A structured pain school is a useful supplement to other treatments of fibromyalgia.
