The glow curves and the thermoluminescence spectra of CaSO4 and Li2B4O7, pure and doped with Sm and Mn, have been measured and correlated with their optical emission and excitation spectra. The dependence of the shape of the thermoluminescence (TL) and thermally stimulated exoelectron (TSEE) glow curves on the various types of activators has been analysed. The results suggest that the activators are not related with the electron traps, while they play a predominant role in the trapping of the luminescence centres. It seems also that between these centres and the activators a radiative energy transfer takes place during the thermoluminescence process.
