The chief characteristics of polyacrylonitrile fibres are described briefly. Methods of application of disperse, basic (including Perkin's Mauve), Deorlene, acid, metal‐complex, and chrome dyes to acrylic fibres, particularly Orion 42 and Acrilan, are given in detail, and the main fastness properties of the dyeings are listed. Comparisons are made between the fastness properties, in particular to light and washing, of dyes on acrylic, natural, and other man‐made fibres. Methods of dyeing unions of wool with Orion 42 and Acrilan are detailed.
