A new Schiff base ( L ) and its Pb 2+ -complex have been utilized for rapid detection of arginine in aqueous medium. L exhibits an excellent selective colorimetric response whereas its Pb 2+ -complex exploits fluorescent-colorimetric response towards arginine with very low detection limits.
