A novel, simple and rapid method has been developed for visual detection of l -glutamic acid (Glu) in aqueous solution. The chemosensor is easy to prepare and use and is cost effective. It exhibits an excellent selectivity and sensitivity towards Glu over other amino acids and provides a fast response time and low detection limit of about 7.96×10-7 M.
